Rep. Windhorst Joins Effort to Repeal Firearm Ban

SPRINGFIELD – House Republican Floor Leader and State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) has added his name to a legislative effort to repeal the recently signed firearms ban. Windhorst says the firearms ban unfairly targets law-abiding citizens and infringes on constitutionally-guaranteed Second Amendment Rights.

“I am proud to be a chief co-sponsor of HB 1564, legislation that would repeal the unconstitutional firearms ban,” Windhorst said. “As this bill was introduced and rushed through the process, I received thousands of messages from my constituents and from people from across the state expressing strong opposition to the measure. I share the concerns of our law-abiding citizens that simply want to exercise their Constitutional rights. That is why I’m sponsoring this repeal effort.”

Windhorst was one of seven Southern Illinois lawmakers to participate in a Southern Illinois town hall meeting on the subject of gun control in mid-January that drew more than 900 attendees. Windhorst said the message from citizens expressing their opposition to the firearms ban came through loud and clear.

“There’s no doubt the people that I represent are largely opposed to their Second Amendment Rights being infringed,” Windhorst said. “I stand with the people I serve. I stand with the Constitution of the United States and the State of Illinois. We must repeal this unconstitutional firearms ban.”
