Southern Illinois Representatives Vote No on Abortion Expansion Bill

SPRINGFIELD – State Representatives Dave Severin (R-Benton), Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis), and Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) released the following joint statement in response to the House’s passage of SB 1534 on Thursday night.

“Illinois already has the most permissive abortion rights laws in the country. Apparently, there is no law progressive enough to satisfy the most radical elements of the Democrat party when it comes to abortion expansion.

“Just last year, Illinois Democrats stripped away the right of parents to know that their minor child is having an abortion by ending parental notification. We also voted no on that legislation. Under this bill, minors could receive a surgical abortion from a non-doctor, paid for by the taxpayer, in a clinic that is not held to the same standards as other medical facilities, and their parents never have to know. That is unacceptable and wrong.

“These expansions lay far out of the mainstream, and offend the sensibilities of anyone that believes in the right to life.”
