Patrick Windhorst Named Illinois House of Representatives Republican Floor Leader

SPRINGFIELD – On Thursday, newly minted House Republican Leader Tony McCombie announced her leadership team. Among those selected to serve in the highest positions of the Illinois House Republican caucus is Southern Illinois’ very own Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis). Representative Windhorst began his 3rd term as State Representative on Wednesday, as the new 103rd General Assembly was sworn into office. Windhorst says the designation of House Republican Floor Leader means Southern Illinois will have a voice on every bill that comes before the General Assembly.

“I want to thank newly elected House Republican Leader Tony McCombie for trusting me with the incredible responsibilities that come with being the House Republican Floor Leader. In this role, I will have the opportunity to help organize debate and ask questions of the sponsors of every single bill that comes before the House of Representatives,” Windhorst said. “While my responsibilities in Springfield will be expanded, I will continue working hard for the people of the 117th district, bringing them updates and information on legislation that impacts their lives, and connecting them to the government services they need and deserve.”

House Republican Leader Tony McCombie says Windhorst is a great fit as House Floor Leader because of his extensive knowledge of the law and previous legislative experience.

“The House Republican Caucus will benefit greatly from Patrick’s legislative experience, legal expertise, and temperament as he leads debate and directs the questioning of legislative sponsors as our Floor Leader,” McCombie said. “Rep. Windhorst will lead the House Republican caucus in our fight against the unconstitutional SAFE-T Act and the recently passed and signed unconstitutional gun control legislation. The people of Illinois will also benefit because Patrick Windhorst will hold House Democrats accountable by demanding transparency and getting to the bottom of legislation pending before the House of Representatives.”

Representative Windhorst took office as 117th district State Representative on Wednesday. A new legislative map has taken effect due to the redistricting process that occurred in the last year in alignment with the US Census, which occurs every 10 years. The 117th District includes all or parts of Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Saline, Williamson, and White Counties.
