SPRINGFIELD – At a capitol news conference on Wednesday, State Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) had a question for Governor Pritzker. Why, the 117th District State Representative asked, is Governor Pritzker and Attorney General Kwame Raoul continuing to enforce the recently enacted firearms ban despite multiple court rulings finding the law unconstitutional.
“Illinois courts have weighed in several times now, and their decisions have so far been to rule the firearms ban as unconstitutional,” Windhorst said. “So, why are Governor Pritzker and the Attorney General continuing to enforce the law as if nothing has happened?”
Windhorst serves as the House Republican Floor Leader and as the Republican ranking member of the House’s Judiciary Criminal Law Committee. Windhorst says law-abiding citizens in possession of weapons in common use that are banned by the new law deserve answers.
“The Governor and the Attorney General should answer, is the state actually enforcing this law? And if the answer is yes, the next question, is, based on the rulings that have found the law unconstitutional, why are they doing that?” Windhorst asked.
Windhorst was joined by fellow Republican lawmakers and representatives of the Illinois State Rifle Association.
