METROPOLIS – State Rep. Patrick Windhorst says Americans owe their thanks to the Greatest Generation of Americans that fought and won World War II on V-J Day.
“V-J Day, or Victory over Japan Day, marks the end of World War II, one of the deadliest and most destructive wars in history,” Windhorst said. “We owe our thanks and appreciation to those that stepped up, fought for our country, and secured freedom for citizens throughout the world.”
When President Harry S. Truman announced on Aug. 14, 1945, that Japan had surrendered unconditionally, war-weary citizens around the world erupted in celebration.
