Windhorst Calls for Lower Taxes, Less Regulation, Focus on Economic Growth in Response to Pritzker’s Record Spending Budget Proposal

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) says his priorities to fix Illinois’ financial problems are lower taxes, less regulation, and expanding private sector employment. The 117th District State Representative and House Republican Floor Leader issued the following statement after hearing Governor JB Pritzker deliver a combined State of the State/Budget Address in the Illinois House Chamber on Wednesday.

“The budget proposal delivered today by Governor Pritzker would once again spend a record amount of money, totaling over $55 billion. That number is more than $15 billion higher than the first budget the governor signed back in 2019. I believe it is long past the time for Governor Pritzker and Illinois Democrats to admit the truth. They have stretched our taxpayers to the absolute limit, and their tax-and-spend policies have failed.”

“My budget priorities revolve around economic growth through reforming our government and reducing the tax burden on families. We need better efficiency to deliver results for taxpayers and working families. I will oppose any tax increases and will continue to call for the end of our failed and costly Sanctuary State policies.”

“Although the Budget Address is just the start of negotiations, I want to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to resist the urge to introduce new programs that would cost our state additional money. It is time to tighten our belt, focus on growing our way out of this mess, and provide some relief for our citizens.”

Windhorst expressed disappointment in some of the political rhetoric used in the address.

“Unfortunately, during the address, the Governor focused more on national issues and his own political ambitions than addressing the state’s budget concerns. Our state is facing serious times. We need real solutions, not political grandstanding.”
