2026 Legislative Survey
1. Electricity prices skyrocketed in Illinois last summer. In part, this was due to existing power plants being shut down in favor of new green energy plants, which are not yet fully operational. Illinois utilities had to purchase power from out-of-state at a higher cost to consumers. Should the state:
Delay shutting down currently operating power plants until green energy plants come online?
Continue to press forward with decommissioning existing power plants before green energy plants are fully online?
2. Michael Madigan, once the most powerful politician in Illinois, reported to federal prison in October to begin serving a sentence for corruption. House Republicans have proposed ethics reform laws to clean up corruption, but they have not been allowed to be debated or voted upon. Should the General Assembly:
Enact strong ethics reform to clean up corruption?
Continue to do nothing and let federal prosecutors clean up the mess for us?
3. Since the SAFE-T Act was enacted in 2021, all areas of the state (including ours) have seen individuals arrested for violent crimes, only to be quickly released because the new law prohibits detaining them. Should the number of detainable offenses be expanded to include a longer list of felonies?

No
Not sure
4. Should the SAFE-T Act be repealed altogether?
Yes
No

5. The Illinois state budget has increased from $40 billion when Governor Pritzker took office to more than $55 billion today. Over that time, numerous taxes have been raised to provide revenue for more spending. In the upcoming year, should Illinois:
Raise more taxes to pay for more spending
Hold spending and taxing at their current levels
Reduce spending and hold taxes where they are
Reduce spending and reduce taxes
6. Do our rural roads need safety upgrades like higher-visibility stop signs at intersections?
Yes
No

7. Should local governments have more say over wind and solar energy projects in their communities, or should that authority rest mostly with the state?
Local governments should have more say
That authority belongs mostly with the state
