SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Patrick Windhorst says Governor JB Pritzker’s combined State of the State and Budget Address delivered on Wednesday focused heavily on blaming the Trump administration for Illinois’ fiscal challenges, while ignoring the fact that Illinois government spending has grown 40% since Pritzker took office in 2019. The House Republican Floor Leader and 117th District State Representative issued the following statement in response to the speech.
“For years under Governor Pritzker, Illinois families have watched a troubling pattern repeat itself. Record-breaking budgets, massive spending increases, and, far too often, votes are taken in the middle of the night on the final day of session when the public is asleep, and lawmakers are handed thousands of pages of budget documents with little time for review. The people of Illinois are demanding honesty and accountability. I want to remind Governor Pritzker and supermajority Democrats who they work for – the hard-working families who are seeing their paychecks stretched to the limit.”
Instead of focusing on property tax relief, public safety, pension stability, improving our business climate, and growing our workforce, this administration has directed billions toward programs and services for individuals who are in this country illegally. This proposed budget sets aside more than $100 million to continue supporting failed and costly Sanctuary State policies. This comes at a time when many Illinois citizens are struggling to afford groceries, gas, and rising utility bills due to irresponsible energy policies signed into law by Governor Pritzker.
When Democrats raise taxes and spending year after year, they don’t get to point fingers at Donald Trump when the bill comes due.”
