METROPOLIS, IL – State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) is inviting students across the 117th District to take part in his 2026 “Read All About It! – America 250” Summer Reading Club, encouraging young learners to stay engaged and sharpen their reading skills during summer break.
The program challenges incoming 1st through 4th grade students to read eight books over the summer. Participants who complete the program will receive an official Illinois House of Representatives Certificate of Recognition along with a special reward—tickets to a summer celebration baseball game.
Students who meet the reading goal will be invited, along with a parent or guardian, to attend a “Night at the Ballpark” with the Thrillville Thrillbillies at Mountain Dew Park in Marion on July 21, 2026.
“Reading over the summer is one of the best ways for students to maintain and improve their academic skills,” said Windhorst. “This program is designed to make reading fun while rewarding students for their hard work and dedication.”
Books read for local library programs may count toward the total, and longer books—over 150 pages—can be counted as two books. After completing their reading, students must submit a form verified by a parent or guardian.
Completed forms are due by July 10, 2026, and can be submitted by mail or online.
Parents and students can find full program details and submit their reading logs here:
