MARION, IL – State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) and State Senator Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) held their annual Summer Reading Club “Night at the Ballpark” celebration at Mt. Dew Park in Marion on Tuesday night. Rep. Windhorst and Sen. Jacobs invited incoming first through fourth grade students to read 8 books this summer in order to qualify for a free ticket to a Thrillville Thrillbillies game and earn an Official Certificate of Congratulations from the Illinois House of Representatives.
Rep. Windhorst thanked summer readers and their parents and the staff of the Thrillville Thrillbillies for their participation and hospitality.
“I am proud to host so many dedicated students and their parents for our annual summer reading club celebration,” Windhorst said. “Interacting with students, encouraging them to read during their summer break, and hosting them for some great baseball is a joy every summer. I look forward to this event every year!”
Sen. Jacobs echoed Windhorst’s sentiments.
“What’s better than encouraging kids to read during their summer break and rewarding them with some tickets to a baseball game at the famous Mountain Dew Park?” Jacobs said. “I am so proud of my summer readers. These kids have a lot to be proud of!”
