Windhorst: Semi-Automatic Firearms Ban Found Unconstitutional by Southern Illinois Federal Judge – Further Legal Action Expected

METROPOLIS – House Republican Floor Leader State Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) released the following statement Friday afternoon upon news that judge Stephen McGlynn of the US District Court of the Southern District of Illinois ruled a controversial semi-automatic firearms and magazine ban passed in the previous General Assembly as unconstitutional.

“As many people are aware, I was a leading advocate against Illinois Democrats’ unconstitutional semi-automatic firearms and magazine ban. Today’s decision by Judge McGlynn affirms my contention that the law is unconstitutional, as it bans many firearms that are in common use by law-abiding gun owners. While this is a victory for our Constitutional Rights, I am aware that a stay has been issued in this ruling that will allow time for advocates of the ban to appeal. I will continue to keep my constituents updated as higher courts likely issue rulings in this case in the coming months.”
