METROPOLIS, IL – State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) announced today that he is collecting petition signatures from residents who, like him, oppose recent legislative efforts by Illinois Democrats to legalize the practice of prostitution in the state. Windhorst says the threat posed to women and young girls if criminal penalties are eliminated ranges from increases in sexual assault, to human trafficking, and the further degradation of society as a whole.

“When I learned that an Illinois legislator was pursuing the legalization of prostitution, I was at first in disbelief,” Windhorst said. “However, as I watched the press conference where the effort was announced, I became disturbed and concerned for the health, well-being, and safety of women of all ages. No idea is too radical for Illinois Democrats, and the most recent effort to legalize prostitution represents a new frontier of radical thinking by my colleagues on the other side of the aisle.”

To gather his constituents’ opinions on the topic, Rep. Windhorst has announced his website will host a petition where residents express their opposition to legalized prostitution and offer their comments on the subject.

“I want to know what my constituents think, honestly, about this proposal. That is why I’m launching a petition drive to collect opinions,” Windhorst said. “If the results are what I believe they will be, southern Illinoisans will reject this dangerous effort. I am hopeful that I will be able to present the legislators who support this movement with a large number of strong opinions from my constituents who agree that legalized prostitution wrongly endangers women of all ages.”
