Windhorst Rallies with Homeschool Families at State Capitol

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Patrick Windhorst joined more than 2,000 children, parents, and homeschool family members for a Capitol rally on Thursday. Windhorst and the gathered crowd were rallying against a sweeping new bill that proposes to heavily regulate homeschooling in Illinois.

“I want to thank the thousands of people who traveled to Springfield today to lobby their legislators in support of homeschool families’ freedom to educate their children according to their values,” Windhorst said. “The legislation pending before the House that seeks to regulate homeschools throughout the state goes way beyond what is reasonable, and we are standing together to fight for the freedom of these families,” Windhorst said.

HB 2827 seeks to add multiple layers of paperwork and regulations on homeschool families. Windhorst says the legislation represents a threat to freedom and family values that the homeschool community holds dear.

“I am a product of public schools, and my children attend public schools.  This effort is about standing up for basic freedom, and the right of parents to determine the educational future of their children,” Windhorst said. “I will strongly oppose this most recent attack on homeschool families. I’m voting NO on HB 2827.”

Windhorst is hosting a petition on his official state website at the following link: https://www.ilhousegop.org/windhorst_homeschool_petition

“I encourage everyone who stands for the freedom of homeschool families to educate their children according to their family values to sign my petition to express their opposition to HB 2827!”
