Springfield….State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) issued the following statement in the wake of Governor JB Pritzker’s signing of legislation that will enact sweeping changes to taxpayer-funded elective abortion access.
Windhorst has repeatedly blasted the process by which SB 25 passed the legislature, declaring the bill was rushed and forced on Republicans by a super majority of Democrats bent on taking Illinois in a radical direction.
“One week before Session adjourned, House Democrats posted SB 25 one hour prior to a Committee hearing on the bill,” Windhorst said. “To race through a bill of this magnitude in a short seven day period does not serve the best interests of the taxpayers of Illinois or the unborn babies that this legislation will effect. I am disturbed at the direction our State is heading.”
“People on both sides of this issue have strongly-held, deeply-personal feelings on this issue,” Windhorst said. “As a father of two children, as a pro-life legislator, and as a member of the House of Representatives sworn to uphold the inalienable rights guaranteed to all people under the Constitution of the United States, I firmly opposed SB 25. This new law establishes abortion as a fundamental right on par with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness guaranteed to all Americans.”
“Today is a sad day in the history of Illinois, and one that will cause lasting repercussions for generations to come,” Windhorst said.
